Documentation

Everything you need to design acoustically compliant spaces.

Getting Started

  1. Go to the Room Builder and set your room dimensions.
  2. Select a room type (e.g., Classroom) to set compliance targets.
  3. Assign materials to each surface from the 53+ material database.
  4. Click Run Simulation to see RT60, STI, and compliance results.
  5. Use AI Diagnosis for specific material recommendations.
  6. Download an ISO-compliant PDF report for your project.

FAQ

What is RT60 and why does it matter?

RT60 is the time it takes for sound to decay by 60 dB after the source stops. It's the primary metric for room acoustic quality per ISO 3382-2. Classrooms need RT60 < 0.7s for speech intelligibility, while concert halls need 1.6-2.2s for musical richness.

What is STI (Speech Transmission Index)?

STI measures speech intelligibility on a 0-1 scale per IEC 60268-16. Values above 0.60 are considered 'Good' for most spaces. Critical spaces like classrooms and hospitals need STI > 0.75.

How accurate are the simulation results?

AcousPlan uses Sabine and Eyring formulas (ISO 3382-2 Annex A) which are validated analytical models. They work well for rectangular rooms with diffuse sound fields. Results are advisory and should be verified with on-site measurements after construction.

What room types are supported?

12 room types: classrooms, open/private offices, concert halls, recording studios, restaurants, healthcare, auditoriums, worship spaces, corridors, sports halls, and hospitality. Each has ISO-referenced target values.

Can I import rooms from BIM software?

Yes! Upload IFC files (IFC2X3 or IFC4) from Revit, ArchiCAD, or any BIM tool. AcousPlan extracts room dimensions and suggests materials based on surface classifications. Max file size: 50 MB.
